Mike Smith is drawing a line under a career in quantity surveying and hanging up his scale rule.
He retires having won awards, helped youngsters find their feet in the industry and enjoyed friendships made along the way.
“I’ve been lucky to always be in a job,” said Mike, “I’ve seen many others have hiccups in their careers.”
He has moved from traditional increased cost claims, through heavy engineering, nuclear power, contracting and finally, back to PQS work with Cooper & Hall.
At Shepherd Construction Mike was a member of the Best In-House Team at the QS News awards.
But his real rewards have come from the camaraderie built with people at every organisation he’s worked at, together with supporting newcomers.
“It’s been very satisfying seeing younger people grow into well-seasoned, highly skilled professionals,” said Mike.
“Hopefully, I have helped in the mentoring and development of some of the young C&H staff!”
In his retirement Mike hopes to undertake part-time voluntary work and improve his “dodgy” guitar playing.
Good luck Mike, it’s been a pleasure!
