C&H Seminar: Alison Duncan (left) and Steve McMillan

Site Managers discovered how to safeguard their employers’ tender margin in a commercial awareness seminar held by Cooper & Hall.

The session helped subcontractors get the most from construction projects through a greater understanding of the purpose of programming and reporting, and the importance of keeping accurate site records

C&H Senior Quantity Surveyor Alison Duncan said: “We wanted to develop Site Managers’ appreciation of the commercial and contractual implications of site operations, which would help our clients improve profitability and either avoid disputes or improve the chances of success in a dispute.”

Some 12 delegates also heard from Alison and fellow Senior QS Steve McMillan about the importance of good in-house communication between pre- and post-contract colleagues when handing over projects.

Delegate David Walton, Contracts Co-ordinator, CA Roofing Services, said: “Steve and Alison were very professional and very helpful; I took a lot more than I thought I would from the day. Everyone said how interesting and useful they found it. I would highly recommend this course.”

After the success of the seminar at their Tadcaster offices, C&H will be holding further similar events.
